Undercover Teeth Straightening

Lingual braces may be your new wingman when it comes to discreetly pulling your teeth back into line.

If you’ve been considering braces for a while, but don’t want to show the world you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment, then we have the solution for you. At South East Orthodontics we realised that a number of people were putting off orthodontic treatment due to the highly noticeable nature of braces, so we have incorporated a variety of discreet teeth straightening methods for our patients to choose from. From Clear Braces to Invisalign and Lingual Braces, at South East Orthodontics we are sure we can help you find a treatment to suit you or your loved ones.

What are your most discreet options?

If visibility is your biggest issue, we have two treatments that may suit you. Invisalign is highly popular worldwide for its removable transparent nature (you can read more about Invisalign here), this makes them a highly versatile teeth-straightening method. With Invisalign, you don’t have to cut out any of the foods you love!  So what other option is there?

“Incognito” lingual braces

Lingual braces are fast gaining popularity not only in Australia but also throughout the world. This method of teeth-straightening is highly discreet, without compromising effectiveness.

Lingual braces are not dissimilar to traditional braces in their function and method of application, but the biggest point of appeal is that they are bonded to the back of the teeth. This means that unless you tell someone you’re wearing them, the majority of people won’t ever know you’re undergoing treatment.

How are lingual braces positioned and placed?

If you decide that lingual braces are the best option for you, one of our team members at South East Orthodontics will take an impression of your teeth, so that your bracket can be custom-made to suit.

Lingual braces are custom-made at the laboratory using a wax printer and then cast in gold.

This process typically takes anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks for your braces to be delivered to us, and are then ready for fitting, so you can start your journey to straighter teeth. You will be booked in for an appointment where your new braces will be fitted to the back of the teeth (instead of the front like traditional braces).

What are the benefits of lingual braces?

You may notice any number of benefits regarding your decision to undertake lingual braces over other types, especially when comparing methods your friends or family may be undertaking. These could include:

  • Completely incognito – as they are fixed to the back of your teeth, you can continue to enjoy special occasions (and photos) without considering just how obvious your orthodontic appliance is
  • Lingual braces suit most people who will suit traditional braces
  • Reduced risk of ulcers on cheeks as a result of irritation from contact with brackets

Unfortunately, with lingual braces you may still have to cut out certain foods that you love (toffee, caramel and other hard or overly sticky and sticky foods), however, this is only temporary and we are sure the benefit of a straight smile will outweigh the temporary fasting from certain foods.
